I mostly draw original stuff.
I dabble in fan art whenever I feel like it.

Different Art Styles!

Posted by BallsyMerc - 2 weeks ago

While I'm busy with the character sheets... I got an itch and quickly sketch out three different art styles for the three projects I am creating.

Matriarchy - seinen inspired, unhinged, gory, steampunk dark fantasy

Boop! - cartoony, "family-friendly", anthropomorphic character focused, 4-koma gag (same universe w/ Matriarchy)

What-A-Wonderful World - sketchy kinda realistic look, politically incorrect, early 2000's setting; criminal drama

Getting super ambitious with this, but no worries. I'm only focus on the dark fantasy story. If I run out of creative juice from the dark fantasy, I'll work on the gag comic or criminal drama story until I get bored them. Rinse and repeat, haha!

Nice!
Don't overwork yourself either, taking breaks are important too!
I like the mantis lady :3

Thanks buddy! I really think Izabi the mantis lady is going to be a popular OC of mine if I ever get big in Newgrounds.

I've always enjoyed seeing a round of characters with different art styles coming together, it really does give that true 'motley crew' sorta vibe!

Ideally, I think all artists should try doing different art styles. It's more eye opening, breaks out their comfort zone, and brings something new to the table for their audience to see. I also believe it's one of the best way to stop an art block!

@BallsyMerc I agree with everything you said! It really does help spread your wings and versatility. And you feel great about it too...and maybe smug, hahahaha!
